Racks and servers
Buy, place, inspect and upgrade your 42U racks, slots and GPU nodes.
42U racks are the heart of your datacenter: each rack hosts the servers that generate your hosting revenue.
Buying and placing a rack
The New Rack button in the bottom bar buys a standard rack; its price goes up with the number of racks already installed. In build mode (B), you choose its exact location and orientation.
Each site has a maximum number of racks: 8 in the Paris basement, up to 128 in Tokyo. See Campuses.
Inspecting a rack
Click a rack to open its panel:
- Load: percentage of capacity used by your clients.
- Temperature at the intake and the exhaust.
- Slots: every unit (U) of the rack, with the server installed in it.
- Upgrades: compute, cooling, mesh door, high-power PDU, cable management arm.
Slots and GPUs
Slots hold compute servers, NVMe storage or GPU nodes for AI. GPUs earn a lot more, but draw a lot of power and run very hot: plan your power and cooling before deploying them.
A rack full of GPUs without a cold aisle or enough CRAC units will quickly overheat, then go offline.
Upgrading your racks
- Compute: more capacity, so more revenue.
- Cooling: lowers the rack's temperature.
- Mesh door: improves airflow.
- High-power PDU: allows higher densities.
- Cable management arm: makes maintenance easier.
