Finances
Revenue, OPEX, investments and how to read the portal financial charts.
A good architect is also a good manager. Your credits follow business logic: revenue, operating expenses (OPEX) and investments.
Revenue
- Racks: basic hosting, proportional to the load.
- Contracts: fixed revenue per client.
- Cloud tenants: the highest revenue, with PaaS add-ons.
- Subsidies: district heating (selling your waste heat) and various bonuses.
Operating expenses
- Energy: consumption × PUE, peak demand charges and a carbon tax above a PUE of 1.35.
- Staff: salaries and payroll costs.
- Site rent, maintenance (building, racks, chillers), insurance.
- Network transit and software licenses.
- SLA penalties when your clients suffer downtime.
OPEX grows with the size of your datacenter: growing too fast without solid revenue can drain your cash.
Tracking your finances in the portal
In My account → Finances, you'll find for each game:
- revenue and expenses per minute over the last 4 game hours, by category;
- the net result and your cash;
- the cumulative breakdown of revenue and expenses;
- your investments (equipment purchases and one-off costs).
Tip
If the OPEX-to-revenue ratio goes over 80%, lower your PUE or sign tenants before buying new racks.
